Best time to visit Kedarnath Badrinath Yatra from Haridwar

The best time to plan Kedarnath Badrinath Yatra from Haridwar is during May–June and September–October. May and June have better weather but are also the busiest months, while September and October are generally less crowded and offer clearer mountain views after the monsoon.

We normally avoid recommending July and August because heavy rainfall can lead to landslides, roadblocks and unexpected delays on the route. The temples remain closed during winter.

How Many Days Are Required for Kedarnath Badrinath Yatra from Haridwar?

We recommend 5 Nights / 6 Days for a comfortable Kedarnath Badrinath Yatra from Haridwar. This gives you enough time for Kedarnath trek, overnight stays at Guptkashi and Kedarnath, Badrinath darshan and the long hill drives without making the itinerary unnecessarily rushed.

Kedarnath Badrinath Yatra from Haridwar by Private Taxi

A private taxi is the most practical way to complete Kedar-Badri Yatra from Haridwar, particularly for families and senior travellers. The vehicle remains with you throughout the road journey, covering Haridwar, Guptkashi, Sonprayag, Joshimath and Badrinath, with an experienced hill driver.

Haridwar to Kedarnath & Badrinath Distance, Route & Travel Time

Kedarnath Badrinath Yatra from Haridwar involves long hill drives, so we recommend completing the circuit over 5 Nights / 6 Days rather than rushing both temples in a shorter itinerary. The journey starts from Haridwar→ Guptkashi → Sonprayag → Gaurikund → Kedarnath. From Gaurikund, pilgrims complete the 16–18 km trek to Kedarnath and return to Guptkashi the following day.

From Guptkashi, the journey continues towards Joshimath via Rudraprayag and Karnaprayag. Badrinath is then visited by road from Joshimath, with no trekking required.

Route: Haridwar → Guptkashi → Sonprayag → Gaurikund → Kedarnath → Guptkashi → Rudraprayag → Karnaprayag → Joshimath → Badrinath → Haridwar.

Is Kedarnath Badrinath Yatra Suitable for Senior Citizens & Families?

Yes, Kedarnath Badrinath Yatra from Haridwar can be planned comfortably for families and senior citizens, but Kedarnath portion requires more preparation. The 16–18 km trek from Gaurikund can be completed on foot or with pony and palki services, while Badrinath is directly accessible by road.

For elderly travellers, we recommend a private vehicle, comfortable overnight stays and enough rest between long driving days. Anyone with existing health concerns should consult their doctor before travelling to Kedarnath because of the altitude and physical exertion involved.

How Difficult is the Kedarnath Trek During Kedar-Badri Yatra?

Kedarnath trek is approximately 16–18 km from Gaurikund and involves a continuous uphill climb at high altitude. Most pilgrims take around 6–8 hours to reach Kedarnath, depending on fitness, weather and crowd levels.

Pilgrims who do not want to walk the entire route can use pony or palki services. We recommend keeping a full day for the upward journey and staying overnight at Kedarnath rather than trying to rush the darshan and return trek on the same day.
