It is also part of the Chota Char Dham circuit in Uttarakhand, making it a must-visit for Vaishnavites and devotees from across India. Believed to be revived by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century, the temple’s significance goes back much further, with mentions in the Skanda Purana and Mahabharata. Legends say Lord Vishnu meditated here while Goddess Lakshmi took the form of a Badri tree to shelter him, giving the dham its name.

• Temple stays open from May to November—most people visit in these months.
• Place is quiet, clean, and surrounded by mountains and the Alaknanda river.
• You can also see Mana Village, Tapt Kund, and Vasudhara Falls nearby.
• Good for families and older people—easy to walk around, basic things available.
History and Significance of Shree Badrinath Temple
The history of Shree Badrinath Temple date back to ancient times, with historical accounts suggesting that it was initially a place of Buddhist worship. However, in the 8th century, Adi Shankaracharya is believed to have rediscovered the temple and reinstalled the idol of Lord Badrinarayan. Over time, the temple was renovated and expanded by various rulers, ensuring its continued significance as a major pilgrimage destination.
Significance:
• The temple is dedicated to Lord Badrinarayan (a form of Vishnu), who is worshipped in a meditative posture.
• It is part of the Char Dham Yatra and the Chota Char Dham in Uttarakhand, making it a must-visit for spiritual seekers.
• The temple holds importance in both Hindu mythology and religious texts, symbolizing salvation and spiritual growth.

Travel Tips for Senior Citizens & Families
Badrinath is a peaceful place to visit, but it’s still a high-altitude Himalayan town—so planning ahead helps, especially if you’re travelling with elders or kids. Here are a few things to keep in mind for a safe and comfortable trip:
- Avoid monsoon months (July–August) due to road risks and possible landslides.
- Carry warm clothes, even in summer—mornings and evenings get cold.
- Choose hotels near the temple to avoid long or uphill walks.
- Take breaks on the road, especially during the Joshimath to Badrinath stretch (it’s tiring and has sharp turns).
- Keep basic medicines, ORS, and dry snacks handy—pharmacies are limited.
- Stay hydrated and walk slowly to avoid altitude discomfort.
- Avoid heavy meals if you’re doing short treks like Vasudhara Falls or Charan Paduka.
- Use walking sticks or local help if someone has trouble walking.

Well-organised Char Dham Yatra, great value for money We did a 10-day Char Dham trip with Travel Vaidya, and it was very well planned, with good hotels throughout. Akshya was very helpful from start to finish, with quick replies, easy date changes and a customised itinerary. We even added Rishikesh and Haridwar. The team handled all the logistics, including Char Dham registration and pony and palki bookings. Our driver Happy was outstanding. He was calm and safe on the mountain roads, even in rain and fog, kept the car clean, and always took breaks when needed. He knew the best routes, good food stops and the stories behind every temple, and his timing tips gave us crowd-free darshan. He even suggested a few centuries-old temples along the way that weren’t on the itinerary, and they were well worth the visit! He was always on time and never rushed us, and he cooked fresh home-made lunches on the way too. If you book with Travel Vaidya, we strongly suggest asking for Happy as your driver. Definitely value for money and highly recommended.

Hema ChandwaniWe choose Travel Vaidya for Kedarnath and Badrinath visit. Unfortunately, we couldn't make it to Kedarnath due to Landslides, Heavy Rain, and the Police had stopped the yatra by trek for 3 days, but when the yatra re-opened it was obnoxiously chaotic and very poor management by UK Government (request them to see how well South Indian temples are organised). But, Ravi ji from Travel Vaidya made sure that we got treated better. Hence, he re-routed us to Chopta - Tunganath, Guptkashi, Ukkimath, Kalimath and other places. Then we went to Badrinath. On our way back to Rishikesh we covered PanchPrayag too. All the stays were good and placed in good locations. Due to unexpected landslide and plan change the hotels also had to be changed and Ravi Ji managed all of this very proactively without any fuss. A special shout-out to Sunil Bhai (our well-maintained Ertiga Sarathi). He was very polite, energetic, knows about these places at the back of his hand, and very good driving skills. He made sure that our journey was safe even during landslides, heavy rain, and heavy wait times in traffic. Sunil Bhai, Ravi Ji and the entire Travel Vaidya team took care of us very well. Thanks to all of you!
Ananth KrishnamurthyAn absolutely phenomenal Chardham Yatra from Dehradun with Travel Vaidya! 🙏✨ I travelled with my father and three uncles (aged 60–78), and everything was perfectly managed. We got decent, budget-friendly hotels and a comfortable taxi. A special shoutout to our driver (Amit) - the absolute best I’ve ever encountered for handling tough mountain terrains 95% of the time! When unexpected rains disrupted our tight schedule, the highly cooperative crew quickly stepped in to help us replan. Dropping a happy photo from our journey to let everyone know they are highly recommended! 📸👇.
Yogesh SomavanshiWe took a trip to Char Dham arranged by Travel Vaidya starting Sept 18 for 10 days. The trip was very well planned and organised with fairly good hotels. A special thanks to Srashti Goyal at Travel Vaidya who was very helpful with instant response to our queries. We were provided with an excellent driver, Mohit Rana, who was soft spoken, decent and helpful throughout our trip. In spite of many hurdles like bad weather and crowds at the temples, our trip was amazing and very well managed by Travel Vaidya. Again, a special thanks to Srashti Goyal and Mohit Rana for making this trip a pleasant and memorable one.
Chitra RaoLast week I took support from Ravi of Travel Vaidya for our family's trip to Kedarnath and Haridwar. That was the same days when the landslide started at Kedarnath. Ravi was our Single point of contact for all the support throughout the trip (unlike a previous tour operator where I had to talk to a dozen people on a daily basis for hotels, cabs, payment, etc. etc.). Due to landslide, our plan was changing by the minute and Ravi professionally provided real time support and was accessible over phone call all thru. He was even very flexible and provided us backup options immediately when there was a minor hiccup with the car breakdown so we dont lose time. He got us the right contacts for mules and doli at Kedarnath. With the tension owing to the landslide, having someone to fall back upon was very comforting. Thank you, Ravi !
Sandhya BhagavathulaOur Do Dham Yatra of Kedarnath and Badrinath was well arranged and planned according to our timing and requirements . The super tough terrain driving was well handled by our Driver , Happy, 😊 , managed the entire 6 days driving happily. Would recommend him and Travel Vaidya to anyone considering yatra with them.
